Demeter's LamentationElena S. Kotsile
Under acidic sky I was stood upon sterile rock staring single strands swimming unsheathed in elemental oceans. Now, only death. Death of the deer. Death of the tree. Death of the wheat. My womb weeps beneath Hera’s milk, the starry swathe that in times past brightened your path. Now only darkness. Disease, famine, and thirst flood your world—you, who so cruelly dismissed my fruit and dissipated my own. My breasts bleed your bound extinction. My tears helpless against your fires. |
