an ice-nymph waits in white on frigid bridges icebergs trimmed in crystalline verglas and hoarfrost her hair is long and thick lacy, looped in gull-white braids and cords reminiscent of ghost-ship rigging from northern sinkings too cold to salvage she waits, eyes peeled on blue-black water its waves all bruised and throbbing and she worries, that he’s stood her up ...again even in the best of times the King of Narwhals and Oyster Shells is as fickle as an Arctic sunrise temperamental as a polar bear stranded on patchwork floes we don’t choose the ones we love we don’t choose the ones we can’t ever get over but now, the hours grow older winter, summer, winter again she worries more-- the sea bath warm (like an open vein flooding the currents) where it should be colder |
