Letter from the EditorsHello dear boneyard! How are things? How are you faring? I hope you’re doing alright. And it’s okay if you’re not—are any of us, really? We’re still happy you’re here. Welcome to Issue 6. It’s been a busy summer for the Baubles team. After the release of Issue 5, we breathed for about two seconds before we dived right back in at the beginning of June. Our I6 authors had been waiting patiently since we sent their acceptances in February, and we were just as excited as they were to get the ball rolling to produce our next issue. This collection came together between pool days and concerts, migraines and apartment moves. Between crazy work hours and personal unmentionables. It came together with the help of extra sunlit hours, authors as patient as they are talented, and good friends. To all of our authors, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your trust and hard work. Here in Issue 6, you’ll find stories and poems centered on community, the value of humanity, and the necessity of growth. We have robots infatuated with religion, renegades, and refugees carrying the last vestiges of hope. We have treaties and misunderstandings, terror and anguish. Questions only the stars can answer. Rage, terror, longing and grief only felt by the human heart. These are political pieces of immigrants and erasure. These are heartfelt musings of last hopes and honor; of trying to be more than what we are, and grappling with the successes and pitfalls of such a lofty reach. This is quite the time to be a human being. Whatever your current shadow, I hope these pieces help and nurture you as they have me. Joel, Shane, Caroline and I are infinitely grateful for our authors, our patrons, the stores who carry our books, the writers who submit to us, the Pittsburgh zine community, our friends and family, our readers. This would not be possible without you all. With a heart full of gratitude, Elyse Leskovic |
